Commercial diets only focus on the diet not on maintenance like Physicians Weight Management Centers programs. A combination of products – special foods, supplements, etc. Is used and you’ll usually lose weight… at least for a while. Few, if any, actually offer a program that identifies and changes the behaviors that contribute to your being overweight in the first place.
At Physicians Weight Management Centers our program will help you overcome the avoidance and denial that have made and kept you overweight. While you’re losing weight you’ll receive professional help and be held accountable for your actions. Clinical studies have shown that accountability and behavioral counseling are effective tools in weight loss and they are the cornerstones of Physicians Weight Management Centers program.
Almost every day we are bombarded by TV commercials that highlight a person’s successful weight loss but there doesn’t seem to be much information about long term maintenance. Physicians Weight Management Centers is committed to work with their patients during their reducing, adapting and maintenance phases. Our approach is that weight loss and long term maintenance is a lifestyle change, not just a diet.
When you begin your program at Physicians Weight Management Centers you are making a commitment to work with us toward your long term success. So it makes sense that you should have a few questions for us. How long have we been in the community and working is the area of weight loss? How does the program work? Are there doctors there to treat you? If asked, will you keep my primary care doctor aware of my progress? How often do I meet with the doctor? How about meeting with the other staff members?
Each person’s weight loss needs are different and quickly. You will lose depends a lot on how much weight you need to lose. And what kind of medical conditions need to be factored into your program. (Did you know there are over 100 different prescription medications that can make you gain weight or make it harder to lose weight?)
On average, women lose about two to three pounds a week, men about three to five. Maintenance is the most important phase and, although you will not need to come to the office as often as when you are actively reducing most patients will work with us for about twelve months after reaching their target weight.
Regular check-ins during maintenance can help to stay on track and quickly recover if “old habits” start to creep back into your routine. “It’s a lot easier to lose 3 pounds than it is to lose 30” says Marcia Cox, Program Director and Owner of Physicians Weight Management Centers.
Our goal is to make you healthy. This includes learning the best nutrition for your body.
